You’re doing WHAT?

My name is Kyle Widner, my trail name (hiking nickname) is “Scarf”. That is a story for a different time.

For reasons I cannot intelligently articulate, I’m going to start hiking the 2,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail, or PCT on 10 April 2018. The PCT is a continuous footpath from Campo, California, on the Mexican Border to Manning Park, in British Columbia, Canada. Do I plan on doing the whole thing? We’ll see. My only commitment is to start. I’ll go as long as my body and sense of humor are intact.

As these words are being typed, my start date is just four short days away. I’ve been in and on the fringes of the tech world for 22 years, so it would seem natural that I would be taking video and pictures, blogging along the way. However, part of the call of the PCT for me is to get the hell away from things with batteries and plugins.

As a compromise, I’m going to carry my cell phone and check in with my lovely Domestic Goddess from time to time when I can get a signal. She will then edit for quality and appropriateness and post here, at PCT2018.com.

Cheers, Scarf.
