Time Travel Trail Post: Scissors Crossing to Idyllwild

OK so let’s back up a bit first and explain that Kyle is taking pics and photos along his journey. But the phone he is using for that is not connected to the internet. So while he will send me occasional photos and such from his journey, the majority of those photos are not getting to me to post here. When I see him is when I can then download those and do these updates. Right now that will happen with some frequency (every few weeks or so) but as this journey continues, that will be less often.

So indulge me in catching you up periodically – he has already done these miles over the past two weeks, but now you can see and experience more with him, should you be so inclined. And in an attempt to keep you all from being confused, I’m calling these Time Travel Trail Posts. This way you’ll know what’s current and what are additional details from miles already completed.

This is the day I left him at Scissors Crossing, east of Julian, CA and he was headed first to Warner Springs, and then on to Idyllwild.

The need for water is ever present during the desert sections of the trail.

And again with the snakes! Peter, what is this colorful one?

UPDATE 1: Friend biologist Peter says, “It’s a California King Snake” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_kingsnake.

UPDATE 2 :  Friend Gayle says, “It’s a King Snake, why ask a nerd when you can ask a Redneck?” It appears she is correct…

But this day was not a lot of fun. There were extremely high winds and Kyle ended up having to hike 24 miles just because he could not get off the exposed ridge he was on. And he didn’t tend to his feet. (Note, he makes an error here, he is actually at mile 101, not 91 as he says…)

But every day is a new day on the trail and he continued his trek to Warner Springs, and then on up to Idyllwild.
